Hercules Middle/High School has had very successful blood drives in its past. However, this year's anticipated blood drive was cancelled due to lack of participants.
The event was scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4, but as of Monday, only four applicants had signed up to attend, according to Assistant Principal Graig Crossley.
“It's not nearly enough,” he said. “We should have at least 50 students.”
As a result, Crossley postponed the blood drive to Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Qualifications for participating in a blood drive include:at least 17 years of age, good health at the time of the donation and uninterrupted stay in the country for at least a year. Each donor must pass a personal screening test in order to determine the donor's eligibility.
To prepare for the next blood drive, resource teacher Jerry Clopp along with a group of seniors have volunteered to assist in the event.
Since the cancellation, only 16 more people have applied to donate blood.
