Seniors embarked on their first formal event of the year Friday, Nov. 16 for the annual Senior Boat Cruise.
Hosted by Commodore Events, the ship departed at approximately 7:30 pm from Alameda to trace the route along the scenic San Francisco coast.
Decked out in a purple and gold color scheme, the entire three-story ship was rented out for the Hercules/High School Class of 2008.
The first level was a reasonably-sized dance floor, complete with a Christmas tree, soda bar and seating areas. However, the room was not large enough to contain the dancing passengers, resulting in many bruised toes as the boat swayed and dancers attempted to move in or out of the packed crowd.
"It was like a locker room, sweaty and crowded," said Senior Cheryl Ho of the packed dance room.
A dining room was on the second floor, providing a haven for those seeking rest from the sweaty crowd and deafening music. At the top of the boat was another room for professional pictures, though students were free to also take their own pictures with the illuminated Coit tower and San Francisco skyline.
"I liked the fact that there were three floors, but I didn’t like how you would have to go outside and go up the stairs," said senior Michael Vu of the boat's size.
Even though the steep stairs were slightly slippery from the moisture of evening fog, the class of 2008 appreciated having the entire ship to themselves.
As the ship slowly pulled into the pier just after 12 am, the DJ’s last song, “Yeah” by Usher, ended this memorable evening with a bang.
